How did she survive ???

Gabrielle Giffords is an American congressman whom got shot in her head !!! the bullet gone through her brain literally !!! from the back and got out from her front head !!!! the thing that really fascinate me and still can't believe it is how did she survive ??? 

and also half of her scalp where removed because of the brain swelling !!!! and she was wearing a hamlet to protect her brain until they cover her scalp with an implant !!!
